If, in the judgement of the University, students have sound personality, are in good health, have demonstrated scholastic achievement, and have difficulty continuing their education due to economic reasons, a full or one part of tuition payment may be waived for eligible students who are selected by the University through the screening process.
Students who have demonstrated exceptional scholastic achievement, among other things, in the first year of the Master's Course, may be exempted from a full tuition payment (i.e. tuition fee payment for both the first and second semesters) for the second year.
Under the RA system, in order to help young reseachers develop the ability to carry out research and to revitalize the University's academic research activities, graduate students will be employed as research assistants (annually) and will be paid in accordance with the hours worked. Under the JMU Graduate Student Research Award, graduate students who have achieved outstanding research results will be selected and recognized. A certificate of award and prize money will be also given to each award winner for the purpose of further encouraging research in medicine and medical services that would contribute to the further progress in community medicine.

Graduate students are openly invited to submit a proposal on a research project (plan), and an outstanding and ingenious research project proposal that may offer promising perspectives for future development will be selected. A start-up research fund will be awarded to graduate students who have proposed the selected research project, with the objective of supporting and promoting their research projects.

Doctoral Course: First to third-year students
[Research Fund] Master's Course: 300,000 yen
Doctoral Course: 400,000 yen

JMU faculty and staff apartments are available to the Jichi Medical University's Students.

1) Purpose
It is essential for a researcher to be able to write research results in a foreign language. That said, it is sometimes difficult for a young researcher, particularly a graduate student, to write a dissertation in a foreign language. This system is to provide grant assistance to subsidize expenses for proofreading a dissertation written in a foreign language by a graduate student that is recommended by the academic supervisor and that is likely to contribute to the further development of community medicine, with the objectives of developing medical professonals who can operate effectively in an international context and promoting the dissemination of research achievements to the international community.
2) Grant Requirements
The dissertation must meet the following two requirements:
ⅰ) The dissertation must be an academic dissertation that is likely to contribute to the further development of community medicine and must be written in a foreign language by an applying graduate student himself/herself for publication in a magazine or journal at home or abroad.
ⅱ) The costs for proofreading of dessertation must be for an academic dissertation written by a graduate student that is recommended by the academic supervisor and the first author of the dissertation must be the student himself/herself.
3) Eligibility for Application
Student who are enrolled in the Doctoral Course of the Graduate School of Medicine, Jichi Medical University.
4) Exclusion from Application
Assistance shall be provided for editing only, and not for other options (for example, costs for checking submission guidelines.
・Dissertation publication fee
・Costs for translating a dissertation from Japanese to English
・Costs for writing cover letters to an editor and a checker and the like
・Conference abstracts
・Costs for checking submission rule
・Costs of a notarial deed and the like
・Mailing costs
・All-inclusive fees (A detailed statement thereof shall be attached. Only expenses for the proofeading of a dissertation shall be covered by this grant assistance.)
・Quick Editing Services
・Multiple Editing (except when there is no charge)
※ Grant assistance shall not be provided in any of the above cases.
5) How to Apply
Please submit application documents described below to the School Affairs Section. As a general rule, expenses for proofreading a dissertation written in a foreign language shall be first paid. A Japan Industrial Standards(JIS) A-4 size sheet shall be used for application documents, which shall not be stapled together. (Please note that application documents will not be accepted if the documentation is insufficient.)

□ Pre-proofread copy of dissertation (One copy)
□ Proofread copy of dissertation (One copy) *All changes as a result of proofreading must be identifiable.
□ Post-Proofread copy dissertation (One copy)
□ Information on a proofreading company (such as brochures describing company profile and proofreading fees)
□ Invoice, statement of delivery, and quotation issued by a proofreading company. Or original copy of credit card statement issued when payment was made by credit card.
*Please note that personal information, such as address and bank account, must be completely blacked out by using an oil-based pen to make it unidentifible.

6) Application Deadline
Application documents must arrive by 5:00 PM on the first of every month.

8) Screening and Selection
Applicants will be screened and selected by the Executive Board of the Graduate School of Medicine Faculty Committee, and the results will be notified to applicants by the end of a month in which application is received by the University. The University will not be respond to questions concerning the results of screening and selection.
9) Additional Notes
・Doctoral Students are limited to 2 grants, and Master's Students are limited to one grant.
・Applications are considered in the order received. Budget restrictions may limit the application period.
・A student must individually conclude a contact with a proofreading company at his/her own responsibility.
・A student must receive proofreading services from a proofreading company (a corporate entity, not an individual).
・For accounting reasons, please note that proofreading of a dissertation shall be completed by the end of the 2016 academic year to qualify for the grant assistance. Students shall not be eligible to apply for the 2016 academic year's grant assistance if proofreading of a dissertation is completed after the end of the 2016 academic year.
