Degree Examination

● The doctor's degree application requirements have been changed since academic year 2013. Please refer to here for the guidance of the former provision.

● With the application of the new degree award criteria from academic year 2009, the procedure of the doctoral course and the doctor's degree application and examination has been greatly changed.

● For persons planning to complete a doctoral course and prospective applicants who have enrolled in academic year 2009 or later, please refer to the following "manual" and proceed.

Diploma Policy

In line with the objectives of education and research, degrees from this University’s Graduate School of Medicine will be granted to individuals who have mastered a wealth of scholarship and advanced research capabilities, so as to play a leading role in the development of medicine and medical care and the enhancement of community medicine.

1.Degree Criteria

In the Master’s Program, the degree of MA (Medical Science) will be granted to individuals who, in addition to having completed at least two years of enrollment and acquired at least 30 credits, have also successfully passed a final examination and defense of a master’s thesis after receiving the necessary research guidance. However, a minimum enrollment period of only one year may be deemed sufficient for individuals with outstanding research performance.

In the Doctoral Program, the degree of PhD (Medicine) will be granted to individuals who, in addition to having completed at least four years of enrollment and acquired at least 30 credits, have also successfully passed a final examination and defense of a doctoral thesis after receiving the necessary research guidance. However, a minimum enrollment period of only three years may be deemed sufficient for individuals with outstanding research performance.

2.Thesis Examination Criteria

Examination of theses shall be carried out rigorously and fairly based on the criteria specified below:

(1)Clarity of purpose and background of research topic

(2)Distinctiveness and originality

(3)Social significance

(4)Validity of planning and method

(5)Intelligibility

(6) Appropriateness of the references cited

(7)Consistency of the scheme and argument of the thesis

Measures to prevent illegal quotation

In order to prevent illegal quotation, it was decided to judge whether the thesis is plagiarism or inappropriate quotation in plagiarism detection software "iThenticate" and submit the judgment result at the time of applying for a degree since academic year 2008.
